Direction, Suffolk, Townscapes
So, I have been musing.
I have made a simple raised cotton
detail range. Bowls, Cups etc. Managed to iron out glaze issues and
so forth.
But now I find that this subject is
somewhat. . . irrelevant. I originally created the cotton aspect as a
response to working in the old cotton exchange in Manchester,
becoming intrigued by the possibilities of the loosely guided mark
making.
I continue to observe my surroundings,
using photographs and drawing, and now being in Suffolk the landscape
and themes that surround me day to day are very different to the
inner city. This is not a land with a cotton industry past. I am
looking at Suffolk, my current landscape to inform my practice.

Paris
This December I took a holiday to Paris.
In brief was very luckyto stay in a fun hotelnear Bastille, nearby were bars & restaurants a plenty.
I saw: Notre Dame, The Louvre, Mona Lisa, The Venus de Milo, Pere Lechaise, The Eiffel Tower, The Pomidou and much more!
A good touristy trip.
Though there were many highlights, including some delicious food at L'ebauchoir I really enjoyed the Dali exhibition at The Pomidou Centre.
Having seen a fair bit of Dali, I wasn't that keen on the idea of an exhibition devoted entierly to the artist, however I was pleasantly surprised. In particular I enjoyed the film theatre, sitting on glowing lips I watched some autobiographical documentaries that featured the coast on which Dali lived for much of his life. The beautiful dark rocky landscapes that feature in his work including specific coastal paths and rock formations.
I often observe urban landscapes, drawing, doodling and incorperating them into my ceramics but having recently moved to Suffolk I am in somewhat unfamiliar territory. Studying some of Dali's surrealist paintings was a lovely inspiration as I have not considered the landscape but more the objects in his work previously.
Photos to follow.
